The Little Merpony - Her Crucial Decision

“But think again,” said the witch; “for when once your shape has become like a human being, you can no more be a mermaid. You will never return through the water to your sisters, or to your father’s palace again; and if you do not win the love of the prince, so that he is willing to forget his father and mother for your sake, and to love you with his whole soul, and allow the priest to join your hands that you may be man and wife, then you will never have an immortal soul. The first morning after he marries another your heart will break, and you will become foam on the crest of the waves.”

“I will do it,” said the little mermaid, and she became pale as death.

“But I must be paid also,” said the witch, “and it is not a trifle that I ask. You have the sweetest voice of any who dwell here in the depths of the sea, and you believe that you will be able to charm the prince with it also, but this voice you must give to me; the best thing you possess will I have for the price of my draught. My own blood must be mixed with it, that it may be as sharp as a two-edged sword.”

As you have already understood, this MLP:FiM picture is based on a famous fairytale by a famous Danish author H. C. Andersen. Fluttershy as the little mermaid, Zecora as the sea witch. It is time for Flutters to decide if she is ready to make her sacrifice and go to the dry land to find the prince... oh dear, I feel so sorry for her

The inspiration for "The Little Mer-Flutters" came to me after watching episode "Filli Vanilli". When Fluttershy kinda "exchanged" her voice for Zecora's magic potion, I immediately thought about "The Little Mermaid". I might be the only person who had such impressions, and I doubt that authors had something like that in mind, but still I analyzed the whole episode and found some funny "parallels":

Fluttershy was watching "Ponytones world" from the distance, just like the mermaid. Then she "saved" "Prince" (Big Mac) from "another world" (Ponytones) and "gave" her beautiful singing voice to the "Witch" (Zecora) and thanks to that entered that "world", she craved to become a part of. She followed "Prince" as a silent shadow and never actually talked. And she removed Zecora's spell by bath (mermaid turned into sea foam in the end). Even Cheerilee's faint fit here loosely in a way: in the fairytale Prince didn't know that the mermaid saved him and believed that it was another woman. Cheerilee didn't know that it was Fluttershy singing and thought that it was Mac.

Of course, you shouldn't take this "analysis" too seriously - it is just a funny mind game that inspired me to start drawing pony pictures, based on "The Little Mermaid". And that's why I chose these exact characters. Anyway, I hope you like it
